The unusual curved key layout may have been intended to simplify typing for two-finger typists. It was not an ergonomic key layout.
The ingenious thin ribbon wheel apparatus that moved the ribbon and reversed it when needed was quite unique.
While considered a "visible" typewriter vs. the then-common "upstrike" machines that typed on the underside of the platen, no typist could actually peer over the front panel of the Franklin to watch what was being typed.
