Typewheel accommodates two type shuttles, one currently in use and a second ready to switch into position as needed for different type face or language.
Paper must first be rolled up into a cylinder and inserted into a cage where it was then fed through two rollers to position the paper for typing.
Platen has hardened over the years.
At the top center of this photo see the spring loaded backstrike hammer, or anvil, that strikes the paper, forcing it onto the ribbon and into the character being typed.
